10 Things You Should Know About Devils Line
Tokyo is the most populous city in the world. Over thirteen million people call it home, which doesn't include the hordes of tourists who visit each year. Among those thirteen million residents is a small population of vampires. At least, that's what Ryo Ashihara believes. And when he starts seeing strange things happening around him—like blood seeping from drains or sightings of pale people in the shadows—he knows he's not crazy. He's just discovered The Devils Line.
One of the most anticipated anime of the year is "Devil's Line," which will premiere in April. The series has generated a lot of buzz, and for a good reason - it looks like it's going to be amazing! So if you're curious about what "Devil's Line" is all about, or if you're looking for some excitement before the premiere, then read on. Here are ten things you should know about "Devil's Line"!
1. The Staff is Awesome!
Among "Devil's Line"s production staff are veterans from popular titles such as "Tokyo Ghoul," "Haikyu!!" and "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure". In addition, director Hiraku Kaneko is known for his work on the anime version of Fate/Zero and co-directing the cult classic movie, The Qwaser of Stigmata. Meanwhile, series composer Ryo Haduki has proven himself with series such as Tokyo Ravens, and Xam'd: Lost Memories. All aboard? Absolutely!!
2. They're Not Pulling Any Punches!
The word on the street is that this will be a very gory show. The series has proven itself worthy of an R+ rating in Japan. While there's no word just yet on if the show will be that gory when it gets released for international audiences, we're keeping our fingers crossed!
3. The Plot is Going to be Rock Solid!
Here's the official synopsis:
"Ryo works as part of a team that investigates supernatural activities within Tokyo city limits and does so with a keenly sharpened blade and intense black-eyed stare."
Whaaaaaat? That doesn't tell us much about what will happen in the series, but it sure sounds fantastic!!
4. The Characters are All Unique!
In "Devil's Line", vampires have been known to co-exist with humans, and a special police force handles their affairs. Ryo works for this organization called the "Moon Demon Company," which is one of the groups under the authority of the Defense Agency responsible for maintaining public order in Japan. In other words, he specializes in hunting down vampires.
5. They Aren't Afraid to Take Some Risks!
In an interview with Anime News Network, Kaneko said:
"I'm a fan of Star Wars, so I was influenced by how it introduced new things when it came out."
When asked about his approach to adapting vampires into anime, Haduki replied:
"There's a lot of material on vampires, but we to introduce them as living beings that are difficult to understand."
"We're trying to make them something that can be believed because it's depicted with a real style. We want audiences to think, 'Oh, these guys exist' when they watch the show."
We think you've got a pretty relaxed approach going there! Keep up the excellent work!
6. It's Going to Scare the Crap Out of You!
Well, maybe not so much as to scare as much as elicit a lot of "eww!"s and mad chases involving bokuto (wooden swords used for practice), but hey - isn't that as bad? Please don't deny it. Just thinking about those things is making your skin crawl! In any case, Kaneko has promised to make the series as brutal as possible, and it's already got us like, "This show is trouble!"
7. The Characters are All Unique! (Part 2)
The main character, Ryo, is very different from your typical shonen protagonist. He's cynical, has a foul temper, and speaks his mind bluntly. The only thing that seems to interest him at first glance is vampires - he even goes so far as to have an idol-like picture of one on his phone case! Other characters include a human police detective named Yuuki Anzai, who questions how effective his job is compared with Ryo's work against creatures such as vampires. Momo Kisaragi also works as a non-commissioned officer at the Moon Demon Company, but her work is more hands-on as she hunts down and exterminates vampires. And then there's Alice - a mighty vampire who seems to recognize Ryo from somewhere…
